چکیده
In Jordan, as well in all the world countries, consumption of citrus fruits is an essential part daily diet, so it important to assess potential risk persistent organic pollutants such polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) these human health and identify their sources order eliminate or reduce them. This study reports 16 priority PAHs content four types peeled grown Jordan valley. were detected studied samples variable quantities depending on type fruits. The results showed that highest PAH level corresponded acenaphthene (35.018 µg/kg) grapefruit. Among carcinogenic PAHs, benzo[a]anthracene (BaA) benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) most representative found analyzed fruit, soil, water samples, whereas anthracene (ANT) was not at all. mean ∑16 for different be 62.593 µg kg−1 grapefruit, 24.840 lemon, 22.901 mandarin, 5.082 orange. dominance naphthalene (NAP) (ACE) soil under hot climatic conditions indicates recent continuous input investigated area. bioconcentration factor (BCF) observed grapefruit > lemon mandarin Based principal component analysis (PCA), primary agricultural soils mainly originated from biomass burning vehicular emissions. incremental lifetime cancer (ILCR) indicated may expose risk. findings this call policymakers public administrations formulation stringent policies actions control

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in fruit juices
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are compounds widespread in the environment, many of them showing carcinogenic effects. These compounds can reach the food chain by different ways and, therefore, the analysis of PAHs in food is a matter of concern. The purpose of this paper is to determine the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from fruit juices using high performance liquid chromatography...
متن کاملRisk Assessment of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Pasta Products Consumed in Nigeria
Background: The present study aimed to quantitatively determine polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in pastas consumed in Nigeria with the view of estimating the daily intake amount and the possible risks to consumers. Methods: Sixteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were determined in locally produced and imported pasta using a GC-Mass Spectrometer. Estimation of daily intake was done on...
متن کاملOxidation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons under Sulfate-Reducing Conditions.
[(sup14)C]naphthalene and phenanthrene were oxidized to (sup14)CO(inf2) without a detectable lag under strict anaerobic conditions in sediments from San Diego Bay, San Diego, Calif., that were heavily contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) but not in less contaminated sediments. Sulfate reduction was necessary for PAH oxidation. These results suggest that the self-purificatio...
متن کاملPolycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in the Dagang Oilfield (China): Distribution, Sources, and Risk Assessment
The levels of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were investigated in 27 upper layer (0-25 cm) soil samples collected from the Dagang Oilfield (China) in April 2013 to estimate their distribution, possible sources, and potential risks posed. The total concentrations of PAHs (∑PAHs) varied between 103.6 µg·kg(-1) and 5872 µg·kg(-1), with a mean concentration of 919.8 µg·kg(-1); increased...
متن کاملPolycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Coastal Sediment of Klang Strait, Malaysia: Distribution Pattern, Risk Assessment and Sources
Concentration, source, and ecological risk of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were investigated in 22 stations from surface sediments in the areas of anthropogenic pollution in the Klang Strait (Malaysia). The total PAH level in the Klang Strait sediment was 994.02±918.1 µg/kg dw. The highest concentration was observed in stations near the coastline and mouth of the Klang River. These l...
